This week I visited Quisine by Guy Savoy on the Pearl... I was amazed!!!
The experience was like nothing else in Doha. From the design of the restaurant, the service we recieved to the unbelievable taste of the food... this restaurant is not to go un-noticed.
We were greeted by a friendly hostess who was extremely sweet and proffessinal following this we were taken to our table simple and ellegantly laid. The staff were outstanding, the service was attentive but not over bearing they are extremely knowledgeable about food and every detail of their work executed to perfection.
The food was something quite spectacular each dish was served on specialist crockery and tasted exquisite. I don't want to spoil the suprise but some of the dishes have a very special presentation...This restaurant certainly has a wow factor!!
The best part of the evening was that I actually got to meet Chef Guy Savoy himself I was so suprised to find he was actually present at the kitchen. Although he explained he is not here all year around as he has other restaurants in Paris, Singapore and Las Vegas he will make regular visits to his restaurant here in Doha
Fantastic Restaurant unlike anything we have in Qatar.
They say it's food from all over India, but what I inferred from the menu was it's basically North Indian food, with a bit of seafood through in for variety.
Getting a Michelin star takes consistent excellence, and hence time - from what I have understood, the good restaurants here haven't been around that long, anyway.
Obviously, new restaurants owned by chefs who also own a starred restaurant (in this case, Ramsay and Vineet Bhatia and soon, Guy Savoy) will be stronger contenders.
The thing to remember is that a chef does not get a Michelin star, a restaurant does. (Though, obviously the chef is the 'sine qua non')
Yes, being a foodie, I know. Did go to Saffron Lounge with great expectations, but like you mentioned, found it to be pretty average. But it is "run" by a Michelin Star chef. Same for Maze.
My grandma cooked better stuff, connoisseur standards I should say. Or maybe i am biased :)
As far as food is concerned, there is nothing worth the moolah here.
No. We have occasion chefs in town that have been starred, like Gordon Ramsey who opened his Maze at the Pearl, but no restaurants. Probably a matter of time, though.
Qatar's winter months are brimming with unmissable experiences, from the AFC Asian Cup 2023 to the World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024 and a variety of outdoor adventures and cultural delights.

Thank you to Mr Savoy and his amazing team
There you go. Same as ever. I was hoping for better things, for a change.
Sigh.
They say it's food from all over India, but what I inferred from the menu was it's basically North Indian food, with a bit of seafood through in for variety.
I meant to ask - food from which part of India?
I was hoping it wouldn't be a generic mish-mash, given the acclaimed owner.
Mainly Indian. I am assuming they get a lot of the ingredients locally. maybe that's why the taste is not upto "standards".
For tea drinkers, they have a nice tea lounge, tho
What kind of Indian food does Saffron serve?
Guy Savoy (the French chef with the much-starred restaurants) is opening a restaurant here. In fact, he is in Doha next week for the project.
Will take a while, though.
Watch the video on the website of his Paris restaurant - it's really well done - www.guysavoy.com
Believe he'll be shooting something similar for the Doha restaurant.

Safron Lounge is overpriced, over hyped and food is average.
another of those snob value stuff?
There is Saffron Lounge at Katata, opened by a Michelin Star chef, but the restaurant is not a Michelin starred one.
What star?
The Restaurants I've been to in Qatar are Miles away getting a Michelin Star or two. Only the prices are Up to Michelin Star level.
No. We have occasion chefs in town that have been starred, like Gordon Ramsey who opened his Maze at the Pearl, but no restaurants. Probably a matter of time, though.
Isn't there a Gordon Ramsey one at the Pearl? I'm surprised that isn't 'starred'.
No
Only michelins are in the car workshops here...
