hi all,

I'm an Indian, currently in US on job visa.I'm married and have a kid of 6 months. My company is processing our green card here.

I have been offer a job (26000QR per month) from QP that includes the following:

Contract Type : Indefinite
Basic Salary Range : QR.14.000 - QR.17.000
Housing Allowance : QR.11.100/-
Transport Allowance : QR.1,000/-
Furniture Grant : QR.45,000/-
Car Loan : 5 times of monthly Basic salary (interest free)
Annual Leave : 37 Working Days
Air Tickets : Family Annual air tickets back home
Education Assistance : Paid by QP as per policy
Medical and Dental care : Covered by QP
Life Insurance : Covered by QP

Our's is a middle class family. Here I can save 3500$ monthly. I'm confused....Shall I accept this offer or not? What about the cost of living there? I have heared there rent is high.....what about other expenses like food, water, furniture etc. I hope someone will help me.

Thanks and regards

I agree with Shreeya, you will be able to save almost same Tax free is a plus. If you are on a definite contract I think you will get one months salary as Bonus. You can get a unfurnished 2 bed apartment for QR.7500/-Furniture & home appliance for a two bed apartment wont cost more 30K. For a big size car you need top pay around 2.5 to 3K per month.

Food is comparatively cheap for a family of two adults and an infant, you don't need more than QR.2000/- utility bills comes around QR.500/- Phone.. most of us are using Calling cards..PC to Phone which is very cheap. Petrol is damn cheap. Life style is entirely different, very safe place to live, you wont miss India much as you find 1 in 3 people Indian. Just 4 hrs flight to India.

But I think getting a green card is always a plus....Unlike in US you never get a citizenship here. If you own a property here you will get permanent resident status.

Hi Usqatar,

The salary offered to you looks quite handsome. But consider the housing rents here, they are really really high. I have no idea about the type of home you are living in US. Here in Qatar you will get a 2 Bed Hall Kitchen basic flat for as much high as 7000 - 8500 QR. If you are going for a fully furnished flat you will be spending another 1500 QR. These flats are located at average locations. If you go for reputed builders they might charge you 13000 - 16000 QR for a 2BHK flat. Or you might also rent a villa up to QR 15000. So considering all this your savings here might be equivalent or even less then what you are saving now in US.

If QP is giving you the Country Allowance then that will be your additional savings.
