Speculations rife over sponsorship law delay

Speculations
over why the proposed sponsorship law is taking time to see the light
of day are rife in the local community.
“There indeed are speculations and many people are now talking about
the proposed law and why its enforcement is being delayed,” said social
activist and businessman, Hassan Al Jefairi.

There are two opinions about the reported delay. One is that the draft
of the new legislation has been referred back to the Advisory Council
for a review since businessmen are not happy about its provisions, he
said.

The draft, according to media reports, was already
ratified by the cabinet after being reviewed by the Advisory Council,
he said.
The other view in the community is that a uniform sponsorship law for
all the GCC countries could be in the offing and Bahrain has been asked
to frame the draft, according to Al Jefairi.
Bahrain, he said, has recently liberalized the sponsorship regime, so
it may have been assigned the job.

The
draft may then be forwarded to the GCC Secretariat for a review and
threadbare discussions.
There is also talk in the community that the Geneva-based International
Labour Organization (ILO) has been pressuring the GCC countries to
protect the rights of foreign workers.

The embassies of major manpower exporting
countries have been making their workforce based here, especially low
wage-earners, increasingly aware of their rights.
Strikes launched recently by foreign workers in Dubai and Bahrain
clearly indicate that they are becoming increasingly aware of their
rights.

"This
is the general view in our community," said Al Jefairi. Workers are
launching strikes saying they can't cope with the rising costs due to
low wages, he said. The issue is linked to the sponsorship law, added
Al Jefairi.

Merci Beaucoups Oryx.....i'm humbled that you have such a high opinion of me.....it MUST be because of the PEAK physical condition i'm in LOL....but that will change when we (eventually) meet for a drink!

Don't let the haters get you down....I get so many that they outnumber the friendly ones by a 3 to 1 margin lol.

Stay safe.

Perfection does not exist. The question therefore, is: what level of imperfection are we willing to settle for?

just the thought of 17 kids makes me almost faint ....I think i'm going to have my hands full with just 2!

Thanks for the compliments....i'm so witty my wife calls me witty allen !

Seriously though....most of my comments just seem to rub people the worng way....but oh well that's just me....at least you get my zany sense of humor.

I am a very proud Canadian btw, despite not having been born there (we immigrated there when I was a kid)....but I have travelled a lot (though not as much as yourself) and perhaps that's what gives me a more varied outlook on life?

Stay safe.

According to my inside information (a little while ago) the NOC and the exit permit will be changed and to the advantage of the expats, but, the laws change every day and alterations are made to the laws so it is a steady coming and going.

Finally the government will be put under pressure to change the laws for foreign workers there is no doubt about it.

CB - hello!

What about this no release letter- we were told no release letter if you resign but yes if we sack you! LOL

Well the mind boggles at the quickest way to get sacked! :)

As far as I understand there will be a change in the exit permit situation, this has been promised for a long time.

Speculating will not help we just have to wait unfortunately.

Please don't mention coffee - I woke up and went straight to work...so I haven't had my coffee!

What surprises me is that I am not behaving neurotically (yet!)

If you weren't happily married with 17 kids I would kiss you. Well said! :)

(You can't be a full blooded Canadian - you are way too astute and witty)

Anyhow I am fed up of

a) asking for exit visa

b) not getting a release letter if I leave

So supposedly what will happen to those two features with this new legislation?

Of course many businessmen/women will find it a disadvantege if you look at what is happening just now. With the new law even labourers would be able to change. On thing more is if there is more movement in the Labour Market the salaries will have to increase because people will not work for low salaries any more.

that allowed me to visit Bahrain in my spare time....Come on !

Wake up and smell the coffee.

Now i dont need an exit visa here in Bahrain, i can come and go as i please...

If you see injustice and suffering, instead of trying to better the place where you will be calling home for the next few years, just say something assinine like "if you don't like it, then leave".

Let me guess....when in rome do as the romans....so if you happened to visit south africa during apartheid you just became a racist?

Stay safe.

if you don't like it then get out.......

Surely you can see how if the law is changed they would not be able to get away with holding their employees virtually hostage with threats of deprotation and witholding NOCs?

Its like asking why the slave owners were so against emnacipation lol

But the laws cannot stay draconian foerever....as I said before, they WILL change....its just a question of when and how quickly.

Stay safe all.
