As an ex patriot living in Qatar I try to support the business and services in the host country. I try as much as possible to buy local products and services from local companies. With my work duties I must frequently travel through out the gulf on regular bases. Since I live in Qatar I naturally chose Qatar airways to fly on. They promote them selves as a five star airline with five star services. After using them for the last year it soon became obvious that their claims are far from the real facts. The service on the ground as in the air is lacking. I strongly advise not to hold your breath waiting to get a response from customer service. They tell you they will return your call regarding your concerns and never do. Is it that they are arrogant and they just don’t care? Has the level of moral of employees dropped that far? The fairs have increase and the level of service has dropped. Through their inability to provide what the boast in their adds Qatar airways have force me, the firm I work for and our customers to use a foreign carrier with a much greater level of service and satisfaction. Hopefully in the future they will address these issues and their services will improve. Maybe they can regain the customer faith in Qatar airways they lost

I have been on many Airlines in my life and have never been so disappointed as in Qatar Airways...! This is the worst Airlines that I have EVER been on and they treat their economy class passengers like dirt. We find the Asia rout the worst as there are mainly domestic workers on they way home. We don't understand, do they not pay the same fares as other economy class passengers? If you travel on any other Airline, they at the very lest would treat everyone with a little respect.I felt sad for the poor things as they were treated like animals. We travel with our daughter and find Emirates and British Airways the best. So does she and she's only 6 years old. She always ask to not go on Qatar Airways as they were never as attentive as the other Airlines. Sad...!

As I recall, we Biz and First turn left when boarding a flight from our private Limo - usually a Mercedes or a BMW. Common people in Eco get off a large overcrowded bus and turn right in the aircraft - where the back is with its crammed together seating and nose bags. Clearly one doesnt fly as often as Moi. Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Gin time again! Hic!

Let’s talk about British Air Ways, for 8 hours, I felt I was being bounce around by all English female rugby team. They were rude, fat, ugly looking and all of them had a bully attitude.
I did ask them politely that I would like to have a bottle of water for the trip, they serve me a cup. I ask for lamb chops, they gave me chicken drums.
Finally I got up, and explain them that I'm feeling dehydrated, and I got a slight headache, then finally they gave me a bottle of water. The food, I defiantly had to let it go. It was not my taste anyhow.
Once we reach our destination and we where disembarking the plane, All the stewards were thanking us for flying British air ways. I told them, this airline is not my favorite cup of tea, if it was my choice.

I previously worked with Qatar Airways as a cabin crew for 2 years, and I agree with all of your complaints with this so-called "5 Star Airline". Actually, for 2 years, I've swallowed all my pains and complains with how they set rules and how they treat the employees. I just get the benefit of traveling for free, coz I can't afford to go to those places. The company were soooo strict that they even invade our private life, they put cameras in the buildings where we stay, and setting rules like, we should not be out of the accomodation 12 hrs prior to flight, etc. what if we wanna go out to eat? what if it's out day off and want to go out with friends? Even on our days off, they've even call us to do the flight. we can't say no, because that's our job, and honestly, being a cabin crew was soooo tiring. That's why now i understand why most cabin crew don't give their proper attitude during the flight and give a fake smile for the passengers... though i should also say that it is wrong. I think the company should set a proper standard and should know how to treat their employees RIGHT so that they could also give and serve people RIGHT.

Its official the Official guide to flying on QA for business and first class passengers covers breaking wind. QA recognises the need to fart in flight but feels that it is really not acceptable to do so in First or Business. They therefore feel that passengers in First and Business wishing to break wind should slowly walk backwards towards economy and upon arrival in Economy - let rip. The thinking behind this brilliant advice is that Economy passengers stink in any case. Brilliant! Well done QA!

Always check the state of the little blue pillow thing - once got one that was filthy inside, actually bloodstained. Asked for a clean one immediately.

The main problem with Qatar Air is the staff...they are not trained properly in customer service. Some of them are downright rude, acting as if they are doing us a personal favour by allowing us to ride on the airplane he/she inherited from his/her father. We are paying hrd earned cash to buy tickets on QA, and we should be treated with respect. Even the staff at Carrefour are better trained and corteous than these people.
Everybody in QA, from the ticketing staff, to the counter clerk, to the checkin counter staff, to the boarding pass checker, to the airhostess have a i dont give a dman about you attitude. Maybe it is because they are not happy with their job, and if it is true, then QA has a serious problem with motivation.
Plus they dont look good and their uniform sucks.Shapeless skirts and very bad color combinations.
I find the cabin crew to be great and i think that they have a tough job....
but the ground staff here in Qatar.........esp at HO on Airport Road...sure they were all trained in North Korea.

I once saw the CEO on a flight but my ex bf prudently gagged me from airing my opinions!
1. Remove Economy and replace with wall to wall luxurious carpeting to store out Louis vuitton matching luggage. After all LV luggage costs far more than an Eco ticket so it deserves better treatment away from that ghastly Echolac range.
2. Provide a huge hanger at the airport to process Economy passengers arriving and departing allowing so much more space and clean air for we top people who only fly First and Business.
3. Provide food that looks like one can eat it rather than one should wear it.
4. Provide giveway toilet bags by Prada or Louis Vuitton.
I think that about covers it! Yippeeeeeeeeeeeee! Hic! A large one coming up - yes its GIN time!
I've been flying from Doha to the Philippines several times a year for the past 6 yrs...and you know what, the ratings don't mean diddly squat when it comes to economy class, whether its in Emirates or QA!
I've had good and bad experiences on both airlines but in general the attitude, conduct and attentiveness of the staff is nothing special. They put on their best smiles when we leave the plane but that is about the nicest they can get lol. At least in my experience. And I like to think I'm a decent passenger.
Food on Emirates is definitely superior though. I will give them that. But in the end, I guess all that really matters is a safe flight. :)
I attended the job interview "cabincrew" they had here in Egypt, and there was this indian guy and lady, and they were extremly rude rude rude. there were like 30 egyptians and 2 foreigners, and at the end they accepted the 2 foreigners only, and they didnt accept any of the 30 egyptians. SO WHY DID U HAVE AN INTERVIEW IN EGYPT???
It is generally considered in the Industry that Qatar Airways are nothing more than a joke of an airline with a crazed dwarf as a CEO.

After reading all the comments from everyone, i am just thinking how much people complain about life and things around them. For sure grass is always green on the otherside, its pretty obvious that we as humans are never happy. I see life of so many of us in Qatar has given us a completely negetive approach. We complain and complian and complain. I worry about the poor people for whome just bording an Aircraft makes one hell of a deal for them as far as they reach home or their destination.
At the same time i agree we need to get what we paid for. But to think of it a person pays for Business or Economy feels that he is the only passenger on the Aircraft and demands in such a manner as if he owns the plane. From my experience, i have travelled allot tried most of the GCC Airlines had a few ups & downs in my travel, tried business & tried Economy. Never had an ungreatful experience. As far as the plane flew well, had no troubles up in the Air, landed smoothly was all i cared about.
I like Qatar Airways, Etihad, Gulf Air, Emirates, I even flew with Balkan (Bulgarian Airlines) and all..
Anyway i always feel you are the customer and you have the right to choose. Dont judge an Organization by thier staff or thier personal life.. in the End we all know where we stand, I would say QA, Emirates, Etihad have achieved a lot in the past years... and there should always be room for development & compromise from all the sides..
Anyway Have a Safe Flight on what ever you may board on..

as a goverment employer i dont have any other possibility than to fly with this @#$% company.Im flying more than 10 times with them yearly,their crew its a horror movie for me wich doesnt end,service its zero i dont know why they are giving us a menu when you dont have any choice if u r siting in midle e class,but this is nothing.Just look the space on your seat,is it created for kids or midgets,every time i get off the plane i will need 2 days to recover ,not from jet lag..
Im flying long destinations over 6-7 hours ,most of the times.Its so comercial and full of ...than can ever be.Privealege club?Forget about it!No words to describe it.Qatar Airport?look the pasport control,how the imigration officers are pushing the asians workers in a line to pass the imigration check!See the poor people sleeping on the floors.Tranzit zone in Doha -WOW thats another horror ,arriving zone check the toilets.the worst think its that horror never ends i witness it for the past 10 years here.....and much more than anyone could expect thats Qatar Airway Your Five Star Alliance and Doha Intl Airport.Damn It!

My last flight out (last week) was First Class in name only.
1. No beer in the fridge in F.C. Lounge
2. Crappy old plane used on the flight.
3. Only 1 hour to Dubai but no headphones provided for the Comedy re-run on the screen
4. I am a Priveledge Club member and had a special meal pre-ordered but it wasn't put on board.
5. First trolly dolly offered me a choice of two different white wines but the second one who served said there was no choice. I suspect they were too cheap to open the other bottle that I wanted.
Definately only 2* on that flight

you dunno how much we experienced and felt that day when we travelled.. They are not really caring or not trained to give a good hospitality or a human respect. They are just robots just been told or programmed to what is to be done for the passengers.

well, it seems like Qatar does have a problem ..
almost everyone here agrees they are far less a five star airline than they claim to be and this is so also in my experience.. i used to work in Islamabad and was flying Emirates to my home country in Europe: much better service, better onboard entertainment system, even better fares.. if there is anyone here from Qatar Airways, please go tell your boss things need to improve a good deal!

Service from QA is bad probably because most of their air hostesses party way too hard in Merweb, Pearl..etc. By the time they're on a flight, working, they'd have to deal with their bad hang overs and we the passengers can't do anything about it!

I agree TOTALLY. I only travel Business or first and I get so miffed when a low life is upgraded and sits next to me.! QA needs to get rid of economy class and instead of seats provide thick carpeting - this will allow we TOP people in Business and first to have far more leg room and a place to gently place our Louis Vuitton bags. After all, my set of Louis vuitton hand crafted luggage cost a darn site more than an Economy air ticket it should be given priority! Hic! Back to that gin

Myself and my spouse are not happy with the kinda service, hopeless, inexperienced Airhostess.. May be only we faced on that particular day of travel. Instead I would rate Emirates as 5 star..... I have travelled with Emirates several times , you will experience the difference... My spouse said not to travel anymore with QA.. However I told her that time would change and QA will give a better service in the near future..

level of service i agree has dropped down to level 1 or zero....reservation staff aren't helpful instead rude to callers esp filipino female qatar airways staff unlike years back, all these nice convincing words come out of their mouth....
take a closer look at their flight attendants outside workplace...how they act? no manners at all, you can't teach manners @ workplace...it's family breeding...even a 2yr old child knows how to behave... at malls, esp when opposite sex are around, they instantly go wild as if just gotten out of a 75 yr old prison!!!

I could also read in this blog that QR does not answer to the complains of their passangers. this maybe the reason why in their web site there is no space for it and when I ask the email to send a complain they give me the wrong one. Fortunately I wa sable to find the correct email address but most probably will never get answer.

Yes, i've mentioned before about Etihad, we have flown with them on a few occasions (economy). We have found them to have great service, great food (no plastic knive & forks), and yes, they are a lot cheaper, you can even change your flight at no extra cost.

I booked a trip to the Seychelles with them last year, and they did everything, it was an awesome trip. As for the service, I think it depends on the flight. I've had some really good flights with them, and some really ordinary ones. Even so, I have to say they are head and shoulders above the national airline in my own country :D. I've been hearing a lot about Etihad... lots of my friends seem to think they are better than the rest, and their flight costs seem to be cheaper... any thoughts?
Last year I have silver card for the frequent flyer program of QA. But this year I was downgraded to burgandy due to short of the points that was needed to maintain the silver card.
It is very unfortunate not only me but for many others having the same situation. In other airlines, I remember with Emirates Skywards they give you 2 years in this class and remind you all the time when you are due for some important action.
But with QA you will just receive the notice and the renewed card, that's it. You are downgraded even with very little points needed to maintain it. There is also no option to maintain by milage swap or similar scheme.
It is correct to say that VIP people only got the 5 stars treatment. Qatar Airways is below par when it comes to the Economic seats. I've been traveling with this airline about 4 times a year but there's no considerable improvement in their service for the last year. Emirates no doubt is way above in all classes. Qatar Airways need to reevaluate their standings from the lower class. I got a Freddy Award vote for other airline but not for Qatar Airways. Hope this reach their Customer Relations.

So you only get good service if you fly business class and forget about it if you travel economy? That's not fair. Their advertisement is misleading. They should specify in their advertisement that 5-star sservice is only for business and first class.
I believe economy class passengers also deserve some good customer service. Economy class make up the majority of the airline revenue.

We recently travel with qatar airways to hong kong and i can't speak for the business and first class sections but the economy class was very ordinary especially traveling with two children under the age of 6 , we also had a connecting flight with Virgin Atlantic to Australia , well what a difference! the flights attendants all smiled ,spoiled our children with attention ,unlike qatar airways it seem like everytime we asked something for the children it was really putting them out , at the airport gate we had to bring it to their attention
that we had children and to board us first , unlike virgin they make it an very important priority ,its things like that will me me think twice about flying with them on long haul flights ,Emirates also gets my vote they where very good too.
I agree with you on that one. Since we are using Emirates our travel problems are over and it makes traveling a much more pleasant experience. They have taken care of us and our clients with unsurpassed professionalism and courtesy. They are very accommodating. You can book hotels and car rentals through their Emirates holidays. I had very bad experience with Qatar Airways and I thought by complaining to customer service, i will get an appropriate response to explain the reason of the problem and a promise to avoid this happen in the future. Unfortunately i got very weak and unprofessional reply from them after 5 weeks from my complaining date. Take care you might be militated by one of their employees in the whole process starting from ticketing tell you reach to your destination if you took a challenge to travel with them from any of middle east stations. I would say Emirates airways is the best in GCC.
yes i would agree, Emirates do set the trends in service and comfort here in this region :), but i really don't know why SkyTrax have given the award to Qatar Airways, maybe they do have some points that proved Qatar Airways is better than the other airline. anyway, lets just hope that all other airlines in this region will provide excellent service, comfort and most of all safety :)

We find Emirates far superior in all three classes. The staff and cabin crew are very professional and courteous. The only set back is the flight times to and from Doha.
but we find Etihad Airways the best from service, comfort, food & price.
Only a short flight to Abu Dhabi and a quick connecting flight both to and from the UK when we get to Abu Dhabi. Not sure of the waiting time for connections to other destinations.
You can even make changes & they don't charge.

the 5 star rating that Qatar Airways was given by SkyTrax on their "business & first class".this is from their VIP terminal up to the services on-board.
don't get me wrong, i have heard a lot of complaints from a lot of people, but those people are the economy class passengers. but i haven't heard any complaints coming from the business & first class passengers.
