Put super fat kids into care!
Shades of Big Brother or neccessary ??
DANGEROUSLY fat kids could be taken from their parents and put into care, council chiefs declared yesterday.
They warned that the worst cases of obesity will be increasingly seen as evidence of “parental neglect”.
Social workers will have to step in to offer advice to protect the child’s welfare – and in extreme cases children could be taken away.
The stark message came as town hall bosses revealed the impact of fat Britain:
COUNCILS are fitting super-size cremation furnaces to cope with fat corpses;
AMBULANCES have fitted extra-wide stretchers and winches;
SCHOOLS are buying bigger seats for classrooms and canteens.
The dramatic warning was delivered by the Local Government Association, which represents more than 400 councils in England and Wales.
Around one in four people in England are obese – so overweight that it threatens their health. And there are a million-plus obese youngsters.
LGA public health spokesman David Rogers said some councils are already acting “where parents are putting children’s health in real danger”.
He said: “Councils would step in to deal with an undernourished and neglected child so should a case with a morbidly obese child be different?
“There needs to be a national debate about the extent to which it is acceptable for local authorities to take action.” So far, only three councils – Cumbria, North Tyneside and Tower Hamlets in East London – have already considered taking action against parents.
But Mr Rogers said childhood obesity had now become an issue for every council. He also said the need to fit out ambulances, schools and crematoriums for a fatter population was a skyrocketing expense.
I fully agree with you, brit. What do you think why I chose to live in Qatar?
The government interferes too much in our lives as it is..We don't need a parenting law..
BF, do you mean there should be a "parenting law" just like the "traffic law" with fines?
If parents are aware that their own kids will be taken away (by the social workers) because of obesity,
then im sure there will be less lenient parents around.
Stay REAL
AbuAmerican yikes....no sugary goodies allowed??! At all?!
But they are addictive. And I have noticed my favorite Snickers bar is much toooooo sweet in some countries. Hmmmm its a start, total ban on their sale in schools.
Thankfully, my schools didnt have that ban. Probably would have spent much too much time in detention. Or the sick bay.
Withdrawal symptoms.

I personally don't believe that social workers need to be involved in this.
The responsibility lies with the parents regarding food and schools/government in providing proper exercise for the children..
Letting kids become super obese is bad parenting.
Its too easy today for parents who who can't be bothered or are maybe busy with jobs to just sit the kids in front of the TV with a bag of goodies as entertainment.
Plus all the gadgets around make it less intresting for kids to go out or participate in sport etc.
Fat kids grow into fat adults and then sucumb to all the overweight illnesses such as diabetes etc which take time and money to treat, money which could be better spent on things not self inflicted.
just eat another (slimline) pie
i agree with mallrat, this should have been the major part / duties of a social worker back then.
Stay REAL
blah! Which clever bunch of legislators came up with this bright thought?
Push for healthier eating / P.E programmes in schools and in society as AbuAmerican said. Clamp down on companies that just keep upping the sugar/salt quantities in grub.
Let them do something. Anything but take the kids away from their parents.

I agree with you..
Problem is that society is changing.. Parents working, kids usually on junk food.. Its very difficult to address..
where is this news coming from? I am fat too but not very! but my mother told me she doesn't want me to be skinny I don't look good if I'm skinny. some people chooses to be over weight and some just don't have enough food to eat or figure conscious. :(
It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid, then don't say it.
Kikay
Hell yeah. The parents are killing their children by allowing and assisting them to become morbidly obese. Nutritional education is one thing, but surely the alarm bells should start ringing long before the parents see their 12-year old knocking 120kg on the scales!

I say YES to this issue.

They Should have implemented this long time ago, in all country.
