London (IANS) - A group of British parents have turned an agitated lot after an inner city primary school threatened to ban their children if they were not sent properly toilet-trained.

Headmistress Patricia Deus warned parents that her teachers were spending hours every week helping children as old as five to go to the loo. Many are still wearing nappies, Daily Express reported Saturday.

Writing to parents of all children aged three to five - known as foundation stage - at the 332-pupil inner-city Trinity Catholic primary school in Vauxhall, Liverpool, Deus said: "We have at the school a number of children entering foundation stage who are not properly toilet-trained. Unless your child has been diagnosed with a medical condition, it is not our job to toilet-train them.

"This is a parent's responsibility and you may be asked to keep your child at home and work with them until they are fully toilet-trained."

Her ultimatum was backed by health experts who said it was "not the job of teachers to wipe children's bottoms".

The school is 100% correct, surprising to note that a 5 year old is ready to wear a diaper and probably walk around in a soiled one till the next change!????What kind of individuals would they become as grownups?

No child should be sent to KG or school and not potty trained. (Unless they have Special Needs and allowances should be made for that).

However - all children can and do have accidents and that situation should be handled in a sensitive way

Got to go with the school on this.. Children should be potty trained by this age. Too many parents expect the schools to do their job for them.

It is the parents who are at fault.. I have seen it with my very own eyes how mothers are too lazy cooking or watching tv or gossiping on the phone with their friends that they actually tell their childen pee or shit in their diaper..

I believe that they should start training the kids earlier.. 3 to 5 years the kid should be already trained.

if the kid is reaching that age without potty trained skills, it has only 1 meaning that the parents are not giving enough time to the kids and/or too lazy to teach them.

I mean the school is one hundred percent correct. I have many friends who have kids as old as 4 who wear diapers when they go out.. Can you believe that? I child should be potty trained during the day by the time he is 3 and that is a maximum.. Night time training takes a while< i mean it is pretty common for kids to wet their bed even when they are as old as 5 but then it is the parents problem not the teachers but as far as potty training them while they are awake is totally the parents' responsibility.. I guess some mothers are just too lazy. I remember once a friend's two and half year old daughter came up to her and said mommy I want to pee and the mom said.. Honey you are wearing your daipers, pee in them, I am in the middle of this very interesting scene on my favorite tv show..Don't disturb me..

It is because of these lazy mothers that children do not get potty trained at the right age..
