Paris woman trapped for 20 days in bathroom
An elderly woman has survived being trapped in her bathroom in Paris for 20 days, after the door lock jammed.
The trapped woman survived on nothing but warm water for 20 days
The room had no window or phone so the 69-year-old was unable to tell anyone but she tapped on pipes during the night, hoping to alert her neighbours.
They thought the noise was DIY work and started a petition to have it stopped.
But a few people realised they had not seen the pensioner recently and called the authorities, who sent in a rescue crew.
Firefighters broke into her second-floor flat in Epinay-sous-Senart and reportedly found her lying on the ground in the bathroom, in a "very weakened" state.
The woman, who has not been named, had survived on warm tap water for almost three weeks.
She is now recovering in hospital.
"You could hear banging sounds, like a hammer, even at night," one neighbour told local media. "But we thought they were doing work at night. We said: 'They are going too far! They are preventing us from sleeping!' If we had known....'"
How long do you think you could survive under these conditions?
I was wondering if anyone would catch that. ;)
But the truth is, my wife is a lot more self-sufficient than I am. She's good with tools and she could get herself out of a locked loo, whereas I would be crying for me mum :P
did better than David Blain in his box! good on her!
Breakdown of families. Disappearance of community spirit and most of all the need for independence.
cause that could be me in another 20 years :(
SAD AND SWEET AT THE SAME TIME!!
This is really sad, more so because no-one noticed she was missing :-(
She was old enough and didn't had that much power to atleast break the door. But still she was lucky to escape.
so sad...and thank god she's saved
despite being old, staying alone, got strucked up in bathroom..... she dint leave the spirit of fighting for the life...
hats off to her....
remembers me the story of a spider "try and try till u get success" tht i read in my childhood.
Sad for the poor old woman, but i am appreciate her will power, to survive 20 days without food,
3 weeks on hot water ...
she fights for her life despite her age ..
Good She s saved .
or maybe out of habit. we, humans, are creatures of habit.
TB, some people are feared of invisible identities..:))
Got ya Tinks ;)
Poor thing.
This highlights the plight of the elderly and especially how insular we are becoming.....
Yeah Tinks... it says the lock jammed, but for the lock to jam in the locked position she must have locked it. If she was the only person there, why did she need to lock the door?
Sad for the poor old woman...Thank God! someone heard her cries..
I don't think i could have survive for long under such circumstances..I would have loose out my stamina and patience to deal with such case long back..
how sad for the granny living all by herself... :(
oh, how horrible. i'm glad she made it alive. and where are her family/ relatives? c'mon, twenty days and no one bothered to visit her to check out how she is? grrrrr.....
as for your question, i think one day then afterwards, i'll go mad and bang the doors until it's hinges are loosen. or mine does.lol.
oh dear, the poor lady...and nobody missed her for all that time...bit sad!
oh poor granny... don't know if I could last that long.. :(
Why did she lock the door?
oh mine.. sad... but saved atlast....
About a week, maybe more.. But a week I can manage without much stress. I will try to smash the door ofcourse rather than tapping on water pipes..
