Nandos City Center Service Worst Ever
Never in my life, I felt being ill treated as what i felt when i went to Nandos at City Center last few week.
I know there is always double standards in Qatar, but as a paying customer, i believe equal treatment should be given, no matter what skin color or cloth you wear.
I hope the Nandos management (if you're reading this) can do something about this type of treatment, especially when this type of treatment comes from the group of "employee/ people" who are being recruited for the service industries.
Who gave them the right to differenciate which is the best customer, when payment for the food is exactly the same.
I've been to other fastfood joint, and the same type of "people" treats others with respect. So I was wondering, what is so special with this type of employees working in Nandos City Center?
Do onto others, as you want others do onto you.
Probably NANDOS has a crunch for you?
I have been to Nandos
in all outlets in Qatar and other countries.
and always found the service great and food tasty.
They are very busy at City Centre and always found them to be fantastic.
I had the same experience as well in Nando at Cty Ctr,
luckily i managed to control my anger, who has been treated as if like i don't have big $!
But one thing for sure is NANDO's image is ruined by having this kind of staff with such an attitude.
gooshhh, poor NANDO, i can still remember HIS face.
the author of this thread for the free publicity... LOL =))
But in fairness, the chicken peri peri in Nando's KL is more juicier than the chicken from here... well, not only in Nando's but everywhere here in Doha...

Rizal, i) it's cowardly to just "hit and run". You should at least give a gist of what happened. (Edit - NB: I did not say you were a coward but that your actions are. You shouldn't explain too much but you shouldn't say nothing at all because none of us here know you but we're willing to take note of a reasonable complaint and be aware - assuming that was the point of your opening post)
ii) it's rude not to reply when so many people have responded to your thread. It's not cool to be the "strong, silent type" in this regard. If you say something, back it up. State your perspective and you'll be either supported or bashed, but take it like a man. If you happen to be wrong, just learn from the mistake and move on.
iii) you're Malaysian too? Please don't embarrass the rest of us.
Edit: One thing about the mentality of some people (note: some, not all or even many) is that they feel that they need not explain themselves to anyone except their closest friends, which is true to an extent, BUT it also is a cover up for lack of good communication skills and that leads to other problems, not just in personal relationships but in work relationships as well. Ok, I'm outta here. I've ignored the advice to not bother about you for a while but I've decided to give this one last statement. Goodbye to OP.

Hello Qlers.
Firstly, thank you for your participation sharing ideas, and discussing comments to this thread.
Secondly, my appologies for taking so long to reply. I didn't realize, that my thread could be such a crowd puller.
Truth be told, when i looked back into all the comments, the good, bad, and ugly, all i can summon up is that, at the end of the day, it is based on skin color, and type of cloth u wear.
Back in Malaysia, I love to go to Nandos. It was a tradition for me as well. So when I came here, I was really dissapointed by the way the "service" staff, treated their customer.
But, being a good sport, I went to Nandos few days back, saw the same people, only difference is, i wore my 3 piece suit. My GOD!!! Never have i seen the fastes da*n service ever.
So the question is, does skin color, n good cloth makes any different in paying the food that we eat at Nandos??
Suffice to say that what I wrote here, you can use your own imagination as to what happened? Why need to bad mouth the establishment more, if you yourself have experience it.
Those who had a superb treatment by the service staff, good for you. You won't get the experience of being miss treated, period.
eaglemmanuel: thank you for your comment, especially love the last part.
But because I'm a Malaysian, is the reason why I never write about it again, and again, n again, telling people how bad it was.
Because actually, at the end of the day, it's the ideas, and comments from each members whom have experience the good, bad, n ugly, is whats important.
Try to find a solution, not create more tensions. Hoping that the Nandos Management read all this, and if they love their customer, and take positive actions, I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy their time at Nandos.
Thank you again, Qlers for your generous ideas, opinions, and comments.

I have been a frequent visitor to Nando's in Dubai, so the first thing I noticed when I visited their outlet in salwa road was the total absence of smiles (something which I had so gotten used to). Everyone was walking around like they were at a funeral. Real grouchy. Was surprised but thought "Whatever ...maybe they were having a bad day.."
Waitress brings me the dish n runs away, I wait another 15 mins for the knife/fork/spoon to come.
Funniest part was I was heading for the restroom when I saw 4 of restaurant staff sitting at one of the tables and having their dinner. I saw some dishes which were not on the menu. So I asked one of the waitresses who told me that they prepare their own dishes in the restaurant kitchen and have them there.
Donno what to make out of this though. Have never come across restaurant staff sitting in the dining area of a chain restaurant having food that was nowhere near the stuff covered in the restaurant menu.
well, he could've at least gave us a gist of what really happened, otherwise, most will think this is just a move to tarnish Nando's reputation.. I for one, love to eat at Nando's.. :)
Nice nick fubar :)
mj, I think the author was just throwing a wee fit because perhaps their napkin wasnt tucked into their shirt for them :)

see, the author of this thread has chosen to remain silent after all the comments here.... maybe we wont know what really happened to him there....
I don't recall ever seeing a Filippino manager there, but I definetely know who you are talking about.
The Arab manager/supervisor dude is great. Always smiling, helpful with ordering, fast service.
I can't fault Nando's, and not just City Center, but also their other branches too.
I dont know about the Filippino manager there, but the stocky arabic guy is A+. I dont think it has to do with being white, my husband goes there all the time and is not a white guy and no joke he always feels like the bees knees when he walks out of that place. Nandos in CC will even go as far to go and get food (such a tabouleh) from other restaurants if you ask.

macky2green, wow! you remembered the offense for 2 whole years plus plus. Who's game to go and do this eye business and sock it to the rude specimen? Since we can't have a bar room brawl, let's have a resto brawl.
/But why were you insulted? He spoke to you in your language, thinking that it would put you at ease. He was most probably joking, no?

.macky2green said........Hey! Anybody interested to have a QL New Years EB there?!...........
.
what do you mean by EB?
.
.
.about that mcdo statement...
.you could have asked him to go out and bring you that exact drink he was suggesting.....
.
I hate to say this, but about 2 1/2 years ago, also at that exact same NANDO'S in CITY CENTER, I was also maltreated by one Filipino Manager (or Supervisor?). Its so embarrassing that my own Kabayan would act like that to a NEW CUSTOMER (yes, it was my first time in a Nando's restaurant that time). I was looking for a unique ice cold drink (like those found in other expensive restos) aside from the usual softdrinks/iced tea, etc. Upon asking if there were any available, I was so I-N-S-U-L-T-E-D when he answered me, "Sir, kung gusto niyo ng ganun, pumunta na lang kayo ng McDo o kaya sa iba!" (Sir, if you want something like that, just go to Mc Donald's or elsewhere!). WTF!!! You expect that from a "MANAGER/SUPERVISOR" who should be a role model to his subordinates in serving his customers. UNEDUCATED and ILL-MANNERED!!!
NOTE: I wrote a comment on one of their comment/suggestion card, but I wonder why until now, I still see him around.
If only I have taken a (photo) shot of that crazy guy, I could have posted it here! I am absolutely sure he still remembers me!
Edit/Addition: Hey! Anybody interested to have a QL New Years EB there?! I would love to get back at that guy! I'll prove to him that customer should be right (not all the time, but most - especially in my case!).

bad publicity is still publicity ... :)
now, why do i feel curious to drop by... LOL
I go there heaps of times, to Salwa, Al Saad and City Center, and I've only ever had good experiences.
But I'm a white guy...
Since the author is reluctant to say anything about his experience, I guess we should assume that nothing really happened at all, or he would have told us.
But from what most people have said above, Nando's actually sounds like it has a much greater level of customer satisfaction than most restaurants in Doha!
I guess in a really odd way, this thread has given more people the chance to say how great the restaurant is!!!
oh really
happy new year
:) i've been there also several times and never had any bad experience. . .so im wondering what happened to the author - so many people had a wonderful experience there.
well, as what they say--- U can not please everybody - :)

I've never had a problem with the staff at Nando's. From my experience they were always very friendly, but maybe you're right. Sometimes people don't treat everyone equally, stuff like that used to bother me a lot, now I just don't give a S&%^ lol. I think you should just get over it.

Mr. TALLG, Sorry for the misspell of your nickname.
I thought, I have heard every adjective from the word 'shit,' but 'shit steering' is outrageously a unique statement.
I must have it, highlighted in ' Thick Orange,' in my books.
I don't think that person understand your statement over all, since they received a very ill treatment from the restaurant. It takes a while to digest that kind of stomach pain.
It was full of wierd QL types. I left quickly.
what's cookin??
mallrat, you'll be a cheap date.
rizlazhar...you see.. you just made great free advertising to Nandoos...Now everybody want to go to Nando's including me :)

coz the peri-peri chicken is great,... but since the author of this post still chose to remain silent over what really transpired between him and the staff, then i guess we cannot really tell who is on the right side...
I dont knwo about you but then at every place there is someone who leaves unhappy right? this time it was you and if you'd shared ur experience with us we would be able to sympathize more.. but i go to Nandos City Center often, and I always find them very courteous and helpful.. some more than others..
If it was such a Gawdawful place.. i wonder why its always full... hmmm..

Hi, my husband also had a bad customer experience @ CC Nandos and vowed that he will not go back there again. He was waiting for take aways when one of the waiters just pushed him out of the way without even apologising afterwards. He called the manager and this one was very arrogant. They don't treat everybody the same. They take a person by face value.
We have eaten there a lot of times and most of the waiters were very nice. But now we will rather go to the Al Sadd Nandos where the service is great! and the atmosphere better than the one in CC.
I had good experience dining in Nandos City Centre. The waiter gave us warm welcome and even provide us soup on the house for all my family members before he took our orders.
One reason I stop dining is nothing new in the menu :(
experience from Nandos in CC, his manager is very arrogant and mad (other Arab), I stopped visiting in CC. The best place to visit in Al SADD Nandos, with superb ambience and better staff and service quality.
Some of you have had positive experiences but I think what OP means is that the staff judge books by their covers.
/Lol! OP's just got Nandos another customer. Oops!
//I will most probably be treated well because I'm female and don't look like riff raff (or maybe I do, but I'm still female) .. but I automatically observe my surroundings so I will see..

As you've consistently got my QL name wrong I'm not surprised you mis-read something else. Go back and have another look.
yes agreed,.. it is highly unlikely that customer service staff are rude as it is against their company policy,.. unless of course provoked by certain circumstances, i believe there should be a limit to the "customer is always right" motto,...but of course, we dont know the whole story... but as far as my experiences are concerned, i have had positive ones where Nando's is concerned... Chili's also has a very friendly CS staff...
who treats the service crew shabbily.
I've seen cases when some people raise their voices at the attending crew/order taker because of LANGUAGE BARRIER. Quite nasty behaviours, and they call themselves educated and civilized...such hypocrisy, i tell you.
I would actually go as far to say that Nandos in City Center gives the best service of most of the places we have gone for casual dining. We get awesome food service, some cheery banter with the waiters and leave there with no complaints about anything.
I will say that I have seen some patrons being a bit rude to the wait staff and they took it for a bit but.... what more can you expect?

agree with azi,.. it is only fair to both parties to tell the whole story, so as to avoid making unjust, one-sided comments...
Never had a problem there myself. Don't tarnish a whole establishment based on your one experience. By not specifying what happened you just appear to be sh!t stirring.
your topic will be considered in BAD FAITH.
Like the above posters, I frequent Nando's, not only in City Centre but in their other branches as well. The service crew are courteous and service is satisfactorily good.
Unless you back up your allegations with the day (or time), and what really transpired, this is just a smear campaign against Nando's.(my opinion)
perhaps the server is having bad day or having her monthly visit :D better be excused and go home then
Same here Amoud. We often go on Fridays and the manager and servers practically fall all over themselves to treat us well! And the food is always good.
rizalazhar, you didn't say what the problem was. ?
I've been to Nando's several times also and i did not find any problem at all with their service. There was even a jolly guy who kept on asking us if we still need anything and if everything is ok.
Smile dear, then they will smile also and be nice to you...
love the food at nando's and our visits there have so far been okay, but i haven't been to the City Centre branch, will find out soon enough...
We go to Nandos on Thursdays, been a bit of a tradition. I find the staff there awesome to be honest. Even the manager there is a very hands on guy who pushes fast and courteous service.
Not trying to stir something up but... perhpaps something happened where the waiter may have mis-construed your behavior? ___________________________________________________

i've been in Nando's before but not the people i dont like, it's the food i dont prefer to eat at all. :D
nkotb,.. would appreciate it if u will stop calling me sungit, though u meant it as a joke (and i hope that you do mean it as a joke,..else)...
...well i've been to nando's both in city center and salwa road a number of times, never faced any problems at all.
yes i agree with Ms. MJ...sungit :D
How can it be worse or how can we agree if we don't know the real story behind.
he won't tell.. though i think it's only fair to be a little bit specific so others will be warned in case they encounter the same...
what did they do to you?
Nandos. It's easy to accused anybody you know.
No need to specify what happens.
When it comes to double standard, everybody have their own experience.
Suffice to say, that when it comes to treating a paying customer, all must be equal.

But you still haven't told us what happened to you there exactly? You have to be specific as to how it happened?
I knew there was a good reason why I never went into Nandos at City Centre, despite passing by it numerous times, thinking about whether I should try it or not. I always decide to park my butt elsewhere where I'm welcome.
