You good people have been so helpful with everything else I've asked. Do any of you have an experience of living in Kuwait, and how it compares to Doha?

with thanks in advance...

We lived in Kuwait for 5 yrs. after the Gulf War..I can say that it's safer to live in Doha for the same reasons that they stipulated above. My female friends have some bad experiences with their locals especially the teenagers who "bullies" them while walking in the streets and some of them even tries to touch the private part and runned away.

I believe it's still totally dry. Don't know if they still sell cold tea on the roof of the Hilton though.

Having said that, I never lost a bottle going into Kuwait but never carried more than 3 bottles.

Provided they were in the hand baggage and the customs could see them they didn't bother unless they had none, then they would take it.

i hear you can't even get a good martini in those countries unless you know someone from the royal families who can smuggle in the booze. how barbaric!

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

hi, i myself worked in Kuwait for 2 years, and been to Doha. And i would say id prefer Doha, why? because of the reason stipulated by Dweller and DeeDee above.

But then it depends what nationality you are. If you are of arab root or ethnicity, you'll find it better here. Yes people arent that friendly, they are also proud, and ive never see any news everyday but Filipinas being raped or murdered their employers because of abuse, insanity or maltreatment. Jeez... its always Kuwait on the news.

There is less freedom in Kuwait than in Doha, thats 101% sure. For one, there is no alcohol and the culture is very conservative. Cant even take pictures of the Kuwait corniche without being vigilant and discreet. Otherwise people will hound and scream at you.

The south side (Fahaheel and further) is much more linient, and if you think the south side is strict? well i lived in the capital, and the neigboring districts and its totally crap. Too much discrimination and stereotyping.

I asked both my friends who moved here from Kuwait. They both prefer Doha. They say the people are more friendly and the culture as a whole is more accepting of others, not as closed or closeminded.

working for KOC and living in Fahaheel but it still wasn't what you would call "free".

Road blocks at night and car searches.

I know that visiting is different than living. but I know how living in Kuwait looks like, because I am not like a normal tourist who visits the country.

I am part of the community because of my relations with friends and families there.

NPA, what I like about Doha, is the Serenity, Tranquility and the Calmness.

Kuwait is more live and active. and I don't like that every day of live.

and you are right they've changed alot after the war. but there are still good ppl there.

you will find living in Kuwait is different to visiting it every two weeks bastook.

Having lived there (but not since the early 80's) I wouldn't choose Kuwait.

There are other similar comments on QL from people who have left Kuwait recently.

Have you experienced living in Dubai??

if so, Kuwait is less than that, but more than Doha

which means they have a lot happening activities wise, so many shopping malls, activity Centers and restaurants

I never been bored whenever I go to Kuwait. but off course I don't go more than 2 weeks every six months and I have family and friends there.

it is good to know someone there that can take you around and show you.
