“Just under half of all violent crime is connected to alcohol, and drunken brawls have made many town centres no go areas for law-abiding citizens,”... UK Minister.

To the OP--Yes, clear evidence of the link between alcohol and other drugs and higher crime. Agree with the UK minister that some parts of towns cannot be visited at night by decent people. So sad, but alcohol is only part of the problem.

One more reason to live in Qatar and enjoy alcohol-free Pearl.

I fully agree about crime linked to alcohol. but problem is ppls who drink it without responsibilities. even we ban on alcohol, this ppls will turn to other thing like "Cough syrup" or similar thing that make them feel like drunk.

may be, jjj75 is looking for ratio of same type of crimes done where alcohol was involved / not involved, ah those will be some figures sure.

jjj75 : keep some allowance for printing error of a ministry's correct name, by the way our focus is 'alcohol'.

My sister, there are many different factors for same type of 'results' but again alcohol abuse is the top most reason.

Only those whos' thinking & action was affected / impaired after consuming alcohol can explain , first hand account.

Medical studies also support this point from time to time.

Now I am hearing this loud sound..."Whooooosh"...something must have gone straight over your head jjj.:P

By nomerci• 24 Mar 2012 18:43

I think alcohol should be banned in the UK :P

Oh heck, make it the West in general :P:P:P

There would be no crime, no rape ..everybody would live in loving peace! :P:P:P:P

Good idea MM, you must write to your MP immediately and sugest this.

This bill could be reduced by educating parents about their duty to be a 'role model' for their offspring, I believe.

Well it's lucky you don't pay NI contributions there like I do then.

Report says : ''Excessive alcohol consumption costs the National Health Service (NHS) around £2.7bn a year, while the interior ministry estimates wider societal costs of around £21bn a year.''

you can say.

What the investigating agencies' statistics read over a period of 5 or 10 years is to be believed.

Abuse can happen regardless of whether a person is inebriated. Just look at those men on trial for raping girls in the uk!!!!!

Very true....a man can have sex with his mom or his 3 year old daughter only and only when he is drunk....

By Missteacher• 24 Mar 2012 15:07
Missteacher

you mean an alcoholic or someone who drinks MM

By Molten Metal• 24 Mar 2012 14:54
Molten Metal

When a man becomes a drunkard his family & children are the first & the most affected, later society and Govt.

By Missteacher• 24 Mar 2012 14:24

A lot of crime is connected to consuming excess alcohol. Also depends on what type of person is consuming the alcohol as to what traits it will bring out in a person.

By Molten Metal• 24 Mar 2012 14:23
Molten Metal

When alcohol is in 'bottle', bottle is not doing any crime.

So, Jim, what do you say ?
