Biggest Horse Racing Event Today (26/03/2009)
One of the most important events of the Qatar racing calendar, the Group 1 HH The Emir’s Sword Race, will become the richest Pure Arabian race in the world. This event has a purse of US $ one million at stake. The race slated for Thursday, has attracted a good field, with the champion and arguably the best horse in the country, Al Dahma, in the fray.
The day will have many elements that spectators can look forward to. A bevy of Thoroughbreds and Pure Arabians and the finest jockeys compete in four races – HH The Emir’s Trophy (Thoroughbreds) and HH The Emir’s Trophy (Pure Arabians). Winning jockeys and owners will be rewarded with fabulous trophies and prize monies of nearly QR six million. And for the regulars, there are many exciting prizes up for grabs.
Two cars will be given to the winners of a raffle draw held during the race meeting. Apart from this, there are a lot of prizes to be won, by nominating the winners o each race.
Enhancing the setting will be the exhibition of racing boats, rally cars alongwith unique cars which will be on display.
Having raised the bar for the most prestigious race, could well see a spin off for the other classics too, with time. And what could be better for the REC and racing!
Races are scheduled to be held on Wednesday and Thursday. The first race starts at 6.30pm on each day. Be there and don’t miss the action as well as an opportunity to win some fabulous prizes.
