I have seen some comments about waiting lists for schools... I would like to know is this for all grade levels?... My son will be going to seventh grade will this be a problem????
The general view of discerning parents is that DC is the best and only if your kids are thick and don't get in do you start raving about how wonderful the other schools are
Does have a fantastic reputation actually. It may have been small at one time - but is now one of the biggest and best schools in Doha. The likes of DESS and DC have now got serious competition and they are now rethinking how old their premises look and they are old, they also have to look at how they handle enquiries and their teaching methods. DBS has now got pupils from DESS and DC. Doha is changing and there are more and more schools opening that are way better than the 'old rule'. Amen to that I say :-)
Just shows your ignorance - it is cheapER because for some schools it is not about HUGE profits but true Education, MANNERS and all-round excellent performance results. PHES has been honoured by the Supreme Education Council in March 2011 (yes, this year, imagine!) for being one of the TOP performing schools in the country in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). From school expedition programs, Park Rangers, sports teams, drama, art and music... I suppose this is enough for now for you to take in. Shame the waiting list is years long, innit? Go and see for yourself the awards and trophies won by Students in not only national challenges, but also outside Qatar before you pass your ignorant judgement next time.
Why on earth would one chose a school that is 'cheap'....Doha College isn't cheap but you get what you pay for..........DBMS & Parkhouse don't have fantastic reputations.......!!
Doha Montesorri and British School is on par with Park HOuse with school fees and has the same curriculum from what I could see. Very long waiting lists for primary but space in secondary. Good luck : )
Very true about Doha College. Many unsatisfied parents complain about the money-making standards and priorities. The best school in Doha for me - and still one of the cheapest ones - is Parkhouse English School. Getting in is almost impossible.
Good luck - but you won't be able to do anything about admission procedures until September (offices open a week before the pupils restart the new schoolyear).
Why do the same names always pop up... Doha College is soo overrated. Our school must be the best kept secret in Doha. Our girls go to Doha British School (Doha Montessori) We have a new school campus ( i think only 3 yrs old) and great facilities. Our classrooms are much bigger than the small cramped ones of Doha College. Also Doha College is notorious for taking money for assesments and then never get back to the parents so the kids dont even get to write the test.
They will do an assesment at DBS and you will only pay when u write the test.
Usually the higher grades are easier to get into. Our yr 10 had no problem but they had to "find " a place for our yr4. It would seem that there are not enough schools for the the amount of young children. Good luck!
This is really late to be trying to find a place for September, try and get his name into as many schools as you're interested in ASAP - There is the ASD, DESS and Doha College which are all probably considered to be the best - but because they are good - their waiting lists can be long. Some have recommended Compass or Sherbourne as well. Do a little googling to see about facilities and contact info - then start communicating with them.
Places have been filled by now and waiting lists will have been updated. Schools are not back now until beginning of September (by that I mean school offices) and I am almost sure that whatever school you pick, you will be placed on the waiting list. Have a look at schools suitable to your 'requirements', but be aware that the more waiting lists you join, the better chance you have to get a place. But first you need to get here as no school will give you a chance to even join the waiting list if you are not physically in Qatar.
At the moment most schools are shut for the Summer - there may be a few schools where the Admin staff are still in.All grades are full in most schools. Most schools have very long waiting lists - however - come September there will be places because a lot won't come back from Summer holidays and some get 1st/2nd choice - leaving gaps in waiting lists.

I cant agree the DBS Is a expensive school for their cheap service...

Thanks Cabbage.... and I second your "Amen to that"
AngelinaBallerina....I never chose my school based on the fees. I chose based on what I saw and experienced.
If DBMS is considered cheap by you, then we are get outstanding value for money : )

Any recommendation on schools......We usually look for schools first and then housing, so location of the school is not an issue. :-)
Yes that will be correct - most schools ask for the child to take an entrance exam and he will be placed in a year according to his ability :-)
He will be going to 7th grade US school system guess year 8 British Schools!?
No problem at all - I think we all forget at times when ours are older how difficult it can get :-)
hi cabbage..ok, thanks...don't have that much insight as mine are in higher grades.
Hi love - it depends on the 7th grade. If it is Year 7 English Schools - busy as and full.Grade 7 from other places - there may be places :-) x
expatmomaua, 7th grade is probably not as bad as the lower grades...have you contacted any schools? When will you be in Qatar?
