Turning carbon dioxide into petroleum

Scientists at a small British firm say they've perfected the theory of turning carbon dioxide into petroleum.
Is this the end of petroleum extraction and all the headaches environmentally and politically as we know them?

The questions are:
1. Can it be taxed?
2. Is there money to make out of it?
hydrogen IC engines are already running in the US.
edifis, If they can make methanol here, they could also make ethanol but that would be probably four times the price of a similar blend sold in the shops!!
Presently, this technology is not viable commercially and frankly I am not optimistic on it being viable in the near future looking at the processes involved.
A straight forward and environmentally friendly innovation would be to limit it to synthesizing of hydrogen from water and then come out with low cost hydrogen internal combustion engines to be used in automobiles.
This is very good! Can they make whiskey too?
