Fire: Police-dissapoint, Civil Defense-great

Some irresponsible laborers working for a contracting company lit a fire to dispense of their leftover wooden materials just outside of our office building...

The fire built-up and almost caused a major incident with flames reaching as high as 3 meters, after which the laborers realized their stupid actions and began extinguishing the fire with water buckets.

I reported the fire to 999 (police=FAZ'A) and they sent a unit. They also connected me to Civil Defense to report to and so I did.

When the Police arrived, the fire was almost extinguished. One of the policemen told me that I had exaggerated the situation and reported the incident as a FALSE ALARM!!!
Moreover, I told the policeman that the fire was close to an electrical panel which could have created a major fire... He reported the fire to be AWAY from any electrical panel and that there was no danger at all!!!

He told the laborers to keep extinguishing the fire, took my ID information and left...

Minutes later, Civil Defense called me and although I told them the fire was extinguished, they insisted on coming to report the incident.

When they arrived, they moved the ashes and to our surprise, the fire was still there. They immediately extinguished it with their car and made sure it was all over. These were guys with knowledge and experience.
All I can say is thanks to them.

But I was very disappointed with the Police!
Do they expect me to wait until the building burns down to report the fire?

Here are some pics and you decide if I was exaggerating or not (and please pay attention to the Electrical Panel).

This is the situation in which the Police left the site:

Actually I will defend myself. I never try to wind people up on QL and hate the way people post rude and sarcastic comments and make fun of people. I am not like that at all. I just happen to disagree that this is a big deal, I DO have better things to do.

I am glad you cared enough to contact the fire dept, people are trying to wind you up. I have seen major fires spread due to people using a hose trying to put it out. I wish more people were proactive about things around here.

I mean one can easily extinguish with the sand around the fire....

But you did the right job. Keep it up.

You were proactive in informing the authorities, better to be safe than sorry, well done

If a fire that takes 40 minutes to extinguish and civil defense consider to be serious is described as small, then I have no more to comment about...

I hope you don't have to go through this experience to learn that NO FIRE IS SMALL ... and certainly not this one!

What were you hoping they would do? I am not trying to be rude, I just don't understand. The fire was small and extinguished, you were able to ensure that your building was safe. I'm glad the labourers were not arrested and deported, irresponsible with fire they may be, overworked, exploited and without rights they definitely are.

especially the crime is committed by some poor laborers.

if it was done by some wealthy qatari boys, I am sure, he would not have called police or fire dept.

when it is workers / labourers, it is very convenient for some people to make BIG NOISE as if the sky is going to fall down

Well it just happens that 3 to 4 workers thought they extinguished it in 40 minutes smarty boy!

And when Civil Defense arrived, they moved the ashes and it was still lit...!

But good to learn the mentality of people around here... very interesting indeed.

Ofcourse this could be extinguished with some effort. Involving Fire dept. & Police men was rubbish!!!!

it would probably take two minutes for a proactive person to extinguish that flame... calling the fire dept. for that is silly... get real!

Be thankful to the police they didnt get you behind the bars for making false alarm.they just took your ID for info next time they wont ask you for your ID but will escort you to their hall of fame.

I don't know if you are joking, but from the pictures above you can see that it was a major fire.

Take a good look at the black colour formed on the wall:

It is 4 times the height of the Fireman...!

I could not take pics while the fire was on, because I was busy reporting the incident...
