Renewing a UK passport

Hi,

My passport runs out in 2011, and I'm about to start work in Qatar this summer on a two year contract.

Is it possible to renew my passport whilst out in Qatar?

It will be fine if I return after two years, but will be problematic if I decide to extend my stay.

Is it worth renewing it long term before I leave the UK? Only problem with this is that the school have started processing all my paperwork on my current passport.

I renewed mine last year, here at the embassy in Qatar.

If I remember correctly, it cost just less than QR1,000, took about 2 weeks, the staff were very helpful as to what is needed, and they informed me by sms when the new 10 year passport was ready for collection. So, overall, one of the easier official tasks to complete in Doha.
