Crash Situation

Hello Everyone,
I was in an unfortunate crash situation this morning, when a huge monster car (a read Chevrolet truck) crashed into the rear of my car.

Although the arabic - speaking driver admitted to his mistake (I guess!), he says to me that I shouldn't have applied my brakes; even when there was a huge queue of traffic before me.

We exchanged phone numbers and agreed to meet at the police station. However, he has already postponed meeting at the police station twice.

Since this is the first time I have been in this situation, this is leading to frustration and any advice would be gratefully accepted.

I have noted down the plate number of his car, but have no photo or insurance information. I checked online and his registration is still valid.

Many thanks.

Thanks guys for the help.

I did exactly as you all adviced. I tried calling from a different number and he hung up saying 'Only Arabic' and there was a lot of background disturbance. I tried calling again and he did not receive.

I went to the police station and even though I struggled to get the message across, they have taken down his car plate and mobile number and asked me to come back in a week to find out the progress..

Thanks again to all who helped. I appreciate it.

Vivme - listen to me. My wife's car was damaged from behind by an axxhxxx and ran away. She had the mind to wrote the registration no. She went to the police and gave the no. to them. They tracked down the vehicle and called the owner. She didn't want to come to the police. She had about QR 6000 fines outstanding and Insurence and Registration was expired. The police issued us the necessary papers to claim insurence and get the car repaired by the garage.

They said they will deal with the other driver as per the Law and our case is completed.

So go to the police station directly and make a report without waiting any more.

Yes, tried calling him 8 times between 5PM and 8PM last night. Not a single call was answered or returned, I have also sent him a detailed SMS last night, which I could show the police as proof if required.

I am going to the police station now..

Thanks for all your responses and support.

Have a nice day!

Sorry to hear that vivme. Don't hesitate to go to the police without him if he is not answering your calls. They will sort it out for you.

Thank you so much Captain, that was a huge relief. The guy is absolutely not receiving any of my calls.

I will probably try another couple of times tomorrow morning and if he doesn't show up, will go to the police station myself with his mobile and vehicle number.

Dont worry.. its his fault no matter what.. and since you have his mobile number and car registration number.. you should just go to traffic dept. they'll call that guy and wait for few days (i guess a week) and if still he doesn't show up.. they'll give you permission for car repair (A letter) and a document to go to his insurance company to claim damage (This info they'll get it from their system). ..

Good luck!!

Lucky Luciano - I heard that here in Doha the "normal" rule of thumb whereby if you crash into the back of a car you are at fault does NOT apply here! Apparently it is your fault if you hit the brakes and there is a crash from behind! LOL

Never heard anything so bloody ridiculous!!!

It's the same ole same ole, no faultee for localee no matter what!

In Australia regardless of the circumstances, if you crash into the back of a car it is your fault and you pay for the damage to the other car and your insurance premium goes up! :)

An Aussie female friend of mine was actually bumped some metres down the fast lane of D5 the other day. The traffic was chockablock at 7-ish pm and nowhere to go! He then passed her and came to a dead stop right in front of her! Chaos! 4 police cars, lots of rellies for the culprit and much later a little detour for my friend on the way to the police station to lodge a report and the "kind man in blue" said you can go home now. What a joke it all is! No damage to either cars just a lot of hot air! That's our Qatar for you!

Shahzad - The accident was near Defence Roundabout. That is one of my apprehensions too, as I do not understand Arabic, I do not want that guy to portray the wrong situation in the police station to lay blame on me.

the traffic department related to that area go there

give the number late and mobile no and description of the car then they will handle the case

if the guy came good for u, if not u have to wait for 7 days minimum bcz the same case happened with me

but keep one thing in mind don't let urself down if he came there and say later that it was ur fault for that case u have to make ur mind

The Fault is with the Truck Driver. No matter what the situtation is the one who hit the other from behind is at fault. He is guilty of not keeping a safe distance from you when driving. You will be issued with a police report to get your car fixed. You are required to pay only QR 20.00.
