Interested in the thoughts on this. Saw the cupcake factory in Villagio and I was struck by the cost and the lack of variety. But also, that is the ONLY place that sells them. Wondered why?
@Finesse - I agree in general, but having said that, I quite liked the ones I bought from Biscotti at the Grand Hyatt (although that was only the once, hence can't comment on consistency).
I have yet to find a cupcakes store that has well-made, good quality and flavourful cupcakes. So far all the places I have tried have been dissapointing.
I have to agree that the cupcake factory is extremely overrated. I bought some...I think it was about 100QR for 6! They weren't that great...I don't know what the big deal is?
I think its catching on. There another cupcake place in front of Carrefour in Landmark. There's a mini-cupcake place in Lulu's close to Landmark. The cupcakes are not made to the same quality as the US. Tastes like box baking with nice decorations. There's nothing unique.
There is another one at the Landmark Mall, I forget the name. It's a stand, not really a shop.
The W Hotel is opening (probably already has) a cupcake counter at the cafe, and the Hyatt already has it at 'Biscotti'.
I saw a stand at this weekend's Food Festival for 'Rose's Cupcakes' - a home business that is soon opening a store in Al Sadd.
So it seems that the business of cupcakes is slowly finding its ground here, although the extent of their popularity remains to be seen - based on how well these businesses end up doing :)

Also want to check out the W cafe.
